VEGA 5.75
 |
At 5.75 metres, Seafarer's latest offering,
the new VEGA slots into their model range between the 6 metre 'VICTORY'
and 5.5 metre 'VIKING'. To a potential Seafarer owner, this widens
the selection, broadens the options and fine tunes the increments
of choice.
A 5.75 metre boat is a handy size. Bigger and heavier than a Viking.
The Vega offers a step up in sea kindliness, interior space and cost
from the smaller boat, and a slight step down in each of those from
the legendary Victory. |
The new 5.75 VEGA is an interesting addition
to Seafarer family , slotting in between the 6 metre VICTORY and the
5.5 metre VIKING. Factors like tow vehicle, available launch facilities,
storage space and of course cost can be absolutely critical when choosing
any boat, especially to those who know exactly what they want and
can tow, store, launch and store without a problem.
A 25cm increment may seem insignificant but when it comes to the crunch
of all up towing weight and all up cost in particular, the half metre
gap between a Viking and a Victory leaves plenty of scale for the
Vega. These thoughts aside, one of the best things the Vega has going
for it is that word, family. |
   |
Apart from the difference in sizes,
every Seafarer from the V Sea to the Voyager is a very much larger
or smaller version of the other. Therefore whatever is said about
one can be scaled up or down and applied to the others.
The Vega has reached a length where full 6 foot bunks can be combined
with a big cockpit. The overnight on the Bay and first light starts
to becorne not only possible but quite comfortable.
The cockpil as the essential all round toes-in-under leg support
and high padded sides. The rear lounge folds completely out of the
way when not in use and is still there when social duties call.
Helm area comfort engenders similar comment. In this model we have
used a slimmed down seat which is easier to enter and exit while
still offering full support. The controls are as comfortable when
seated as standing and there are grab rails where they're needed.

| Another area were we demonstrate the
right way to do things, check the quality, from switch gear and instruments
to the mooring heardware, the real glass windscreen, upholstery, canopies
and stainless steel bowrails, targa arches etc. and it's time to lay
or retrieve the pick. A big hatch, realistically sized anchorwell,
divided rail, stout fairlead and bollard. Anchoring and retrieval
should involve no discomfort and this boat doesn't. |
