VENTURA 5.5
HALF CABIN MKII
|
Where the Viking is essentially
a hard core fishing boat that can be customised for additional comforts
and social use, the Ventura is a comfortable half cabin boat, ideal
for family and social boating with the capacity to also work very
well in fishing situations. It is important to note that all of the
heavy duty fittings created for hard working offshore boats carry
through into these family models to ensure the highest standards of
safety and a very long life for the boat.
A full half cabin, the Ventura features comfortable 1. 82m (six foot)
bunks with cloth covered cushions that have stowage space below. With
the optional in-fill cushion in place this makes up into a large double
berth.
The dash has been recessed on the port side to improve cabin access,
and a soft cover with clips and zips is available to completely enclose
the cabin for privacy. |
 |
A similar helm console to
the Viking is utilised, putting all of the important gauges and electronics
where they are most easily sighted and accessed.
A high, heavily framed wraparound glass windscreen delivers high levels
of protection from the wind, and heavy duty stainless steel grab-rails
are fitted throughout the boat for passenger security.
A full width rear folding bench seat with a 5em thick wrap-around
back rest brings the standard seating capacity up to five adults.
|
The standard Ventura is presented in
a low maintenance fitup for those who will use the boat for fishing
and general family operations. For those seeking a greater level of
comfort and superior appearance, a luxurious wrap-around rear lounge
is available, along with heavy duty carpeting, interior lining and
padded cockpit coaming surrounds.
A great new design innovation on the new Ventura is the way the aft
deck and storage wells have been handled. The wells are normally located
either side of the aft deck, so you have a full height aft deck then
a big drop down to the boarding steps, which can make life quite difficult
for small or less agile people when boarding the boat from the shore.
Seafarer has taken these wells out of the aft deck and located them
at mid height on the transom to create an intermediate step for those
coming on board. It works brilliantly to make boarding a much easier,
and safer business. |

On-Water Performance
The 5.5m Seafarer hull used for both the Viking and the Ventura is
the largest boat in the Seafarer range that can be comfortably towed
behind the average 6 cylinder family car. This new model has been
virtually cloned form the Seafarer Victory hull, considered by many
authorities to be the best blue water mono hull produced in Australia
today. |
|
One of the outstanding characteristics
of current Seafarer designs is the high level of buoyancy aft, a feature
enabling the boats to accommodate large engines yet still float with
the chines just level with the surface of the water. The boats sit
nice and flat at rest and, as a result, have no difficulty rising
on to the plane when power is applied.
This same characteristic is also extremely valuable in severe weather
and rough seas when the hull retains a flat planing attitude at low
running speeds. Many deep vee hulls will adopt a nose up attitude
at almost any speed.
Factory testing with two men on board and a full load of fuel (136
litres) produced a top speed of 38 knots (70km/h) with a 115hp Evinrue
FICHT engine fitted. This size engine would be ideal for the majority
of family users, but for general fishing applications where adequate
for this hull. When the boat is to be used for water sports such as
skiing, the hull will comfortably accommodate engines to 150hp.
Over the years Seafarer have achieved almost legendary status for
their rough water performance, which has overshadowed the fact they
are also exceptional high performance hulls. Even with maximum power
fitted the handling is brilliant, and if used for skiing or other
high performance water sports, acceleration and the hole shot from
a standing start leave nothing to be desired.
The standard fuel supply is a 130 litre underfloor fuel tank, and
for long range operations an optional 160 litre fuel tank can be fitted
to the Viking.
The rough water performance of the new Seafarer hulls can be attributed
to three factors. The first is the basic shape of the hull with fine
cutting edges forward and exceptional levels of left and recovery
in the higher bow sections.
The seond is the great buoyancy aft, which allows the hull to remain
relatively flat whether running at high or low speeds, or rising out
of the hole.
Finally, compare the weight of any Seafarer boat with a competitor's
product of similar size. In some cases the Seafarer may weigh as much
as 50 percent more.
The boats are built this way so they will outlast anything else, but
there is just no substitute for bulk and weight for delivering rough
water performance and stability at rest.
Drive the others first and then drive our boats as hard as they can
go. After you get used to the bumps and rattles of other brands, experience
the quiet, civilised ride delivered by our solid, well made Seafarer
boats. |
